SAP HANA licence can be described as editions based on the functionalities / capabilities

  1. SAP HANA Base Edition  ( Basic )
  2. SAP HANA Spacial Edition ( Little More )
  3. SAP HANA Platform edition ( More )
  4. SAP HANA Enterprise edition. ( Highest )

Enterprise edition will provide all the capabilities of other editions and some additional capabilities. Once licence for edition is received, the received licence can be 

  1. Un-Enforced
  2. Enforced

In case of Un-enforced licence , the memory utilization does not have any constraints until bottleneck occurs

Incase of Enforced, the system will have a memory utilization limitation which is licenced and set ( in addition with little Tolerance ). If the utilization exceeds this limit either HANA needs to be restarted or apply new permanent Licence with sufficient Memory limit.

Every HANA system will get a temp licence with installation which is valid for 90 Days. Meanwhile need to get from SMP and apply a permanent licence. Permanent Licence can be requested any number of times. The temp licence provided after Installation have the limitation on virtual unlimited licenced memory to 2 GB

If the permanent licence is expired, by default temp licence will be generated automatically and is valid for 30 days.

The database user with the system authorization LICENSE ADMIN only can apply licence using HANA Studio , SQL command line. Licence details can be viewed using the system view M_LICENSE using SQL command SELECT * FROM M_LICENSE.

                                           In addition to product (edition) licence,  we need to buy additional licence to use SAP HANA options which includes

  • Dynamic Tiering   : To maintain warm/ cold data on disks(extended storage) instead of In-memory.
  • Smart Data Streaming : To apply intelligence on Streaming data and save the results in DB. Data accepted from many data sources 
  • Real time replication : from any supported data source to HANA DB with the use of SAP LT.
  • SAP OPI ( Operational process Intelligence ) is a platform to create smart process applications ( Business scenarios , workflows,rules & tasks). 
  • SAP HANA accelerator for SAP ASE – to speed up the processing in SAP ASE database.
